2 DAY RAIL JOURNEY - BRISBANE TO CAIRNS AND CAIRNS TO BRISBANE
Comfort, flexibility and a great atmosphere ensure The Sunlander is one of Australia’s great journeys. This scenic route winds along Queensland’s east coast and departs twice a week from Brisbane and Cairns in style in Queenslander class.
Queenslander Class - offers all the creature comforts you need for a train journey. This all-inclusive style of travel features first class accommodation in twin-berth sleeping compartments, fine dining in an exclusive restaurant car (excluding drinks) entertainment and commentary, personalised service and many special touches.
Day 1 – Brisbane: depart Brisbane on a Sunday morning or midday on a Thursday, travelling in Queenslander class. As you leave Brisbane, the scenery is breathtaking:watch suburbia give way to bushland with tall gum trees, then pineapple plantations in every direction. The Sunlander takes you past the odd shaped peaks of the Glasshouse Mountains past Gympie, the birthplace of the Queensland gold rush of 1867 and Bundaberg, the southern gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Overnight on board in your twin-berth sleeping compartment.
Day 2 – Cairns: start the day with a sumptuous breakfast in the restaurant car. Another day seeing Queensland’s magnificent east coast. Today the Sunlander will continue its journey to Cairns, passing through Townsville, the unofficial capital of North Queensland and onwards to Cardwell, gateway to untamed wilderness and deserted islands. You arrive into Cairns late afternoon (for Sunday departures) or early evening (for Thursday departures).
Please note: this journey can be done in reverse departing Cairns on a Tuesday or Saturday morning and arriving into Brisbane on a Wednesday (for Tuesday departures or Sunday afternoon (for Saturday departures)
